We are learning to … Identify different personality traits. Focus: Mrs Kay, Mr Briggs and Carol Chandler

Connect: Can you remember any words spoken by Mrs Kay, Mr Briggs or Carol? Can you speak in the correct tone? “Now listen here young lady-I don’t like your attitude!”

1] “Never mind what for, just do what you’re told, lad!” 2] “Is Conwy in England?” 3] “All right, you don’t like these kids. But do you have to cause them so much pain?” 4] “I like them nice places. Y’ know them places on the telly.”

Activate: In groups you will be given a character – Mrs Kay, Mr Briggs or Carol. You will be assigned roles. Imagine what their favourite things are. You could include animals, food, hobbies, subjects, fair ground rides, places to visit, flowers, sports, etc. Present your favourite things and stay in role.

Demonstrate: Continue reading in your groups and find out more about these three characters. Try to use different voices for each character and try to capture their mood. How will you show each of the character’s personalities?

Review: Nominate best performance as Carol, Mrs Kay and Mr Briggs. Why are these the best performances? Which character traits did they show?

Consolidate: Who is your favourite character so far? Why ? Is Mr Briggs the character we love to hate? How are we meant to feel about him?
