Writing about reading…huh? It’s called “response to literature” write about the theme, plot, characters, or other parts of a chapter, story, book, or poem. Besides reading and understanding what you read… ◦ Writing is also a judge of your school success Writing about what you read is a necessary responsibility for participation in your community life and in the job world

Writing with A/R What is the story about? My Daily Reading How many books did I read? Title Plot (events that happened) Setting (Where/When the Story takes place) Main Character(s) Total Pages in Book Days it took me to read this book? Total Page divided by Days read = pages per day Example > The Outsiders A group of rich kids go against a group of poor kids1950's Pony Boy, Cherry 2401024 How did I connect to this story? (Respond to 1) Text-to-self: What does this remind me of in my life? What is this similar to in my life? How is this different from my life? Text-to-text: What does this remind me of in another book? How is this text similar to other things I’ve read? How is this different from other books I’ve read? Text-to-world: What does this remind me of in the real world? How did this story relate to the world around me? This story reminded me of when I tried to be friends with someone and their friends didn't like me, so they told her to stay away from me. This story reminds of East Side Dreams. The character in East Dreams did not make good choices just like Pony Boy in The Outsiders. They both kept getting into trouble because of fighting. This story reminds of the world because a lot of kids don't have their fathers or mothers at home. They make bad choice and get into trouble when they think no one is caring for them. You will be completing an Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet with information… …after each AR Book you read!
