8. T is for TITLE ◦Analyze the title first. ◦What do you predict this poem will be about?

9. READ THE POEM!!!!

10. P is for PARAPHRASE ◦Paraphrasing is putting something in your own words. ◦After reading the poem, rewrite it in your own words. ◦This may be three sentences or a page, depending on the particular poem.

11. C is for CONNOTATION ◦Analyze the figures of speech and sound effects of the poem. ◦These are the poetry vocabulary we have already studied. ◦These elements add to the meaning.

12. A is for ATTITUDE ◦Tone is the attitude of the speaker toward the subject of the poem.

13. S is for SHIFT ◦If there is a change in… ◦Time ◦Tone ◦Speaker This should always be noted as this will also affect the meaning.

16. Assignment ◦As a class, we will complete a TPCASST of Billy Collin’s poem, “Introduction to Poetry”. After wards, you will independently complete your own TPCASTT of Nikki Giovanni’s “Kidnap Poem”.

33. Round Robin ◦Imagine that you are in a circle with your groups. ◦Pass your poem to each other going clockwise. ◦Make sure to read each person’s poem. ◦Tell them something positive about their poem.

34. Objective ◦SWBAT Analyze a peer’s poem using TPCASST ◦CRS: CLR 602, ARG 603

35. Assignment ◦Now that you have read different poems from your peers. Select a poem you really liked and use TPCASST to really analyze its meaning.
