10 1 ST GRADE COMMON ASSESSMENT WORK Ways to close the gaps : re-teach content in small groups/one-on-one; utilize programs such as Essential Skills, IXL, Mathletics during stations and Flex time; extra reading practice with volunteers/instructional assistance/TAG; use of information from MAP testing and DesCarte activities to improve individual student achievement; communicate with parents during conferences about student progress; plan activities for Math Night that are directly correlated with Math standards and specific areas that need improving.

13 2 ND G RADE C OMMON A SSESSMENT WORK Priority Standard ELA Unit 1 (L.2.1a&b) (Noun Summative Assessment on Irregular and Collective nouns) Strengths : Students were able to change irregular nouns to plurals. Weaknesses : Students had trouble with spelling rules (es and ies); TAG students missing core instruction and flex interventions Suggestions for Improvement : Flex-Reteach-Reassess; Practice more application in writing (journals).

14 2 ND G RADE C OMMON ASSESSMENTS WORK Priority Standard ELA Unit 1 (RL.2.5) Story Structure Summative Strengths : Revised and created a new assessment for this standard after discussing concerns at PLC; Also, a teacher- made poster was created and utilized by all of the 2 nd grade team as an anchor chart proved to be a great tool for teaching Weaknesses : Verbalizing and writing Suggestions for Improvement : Exit Slips, Bell Ringers, Journals, Brainpop Jr., Hot Dots, Teach – concept/Vocabulary first the apply

15 2 ND G RADE COMMON ASSESSMENT WORK Priority Standard Unit 1 Summative (2.NBT.3) Number Sense Strengths : Numbers and Base Ten; Overall these skills were a strength; Concept well taught and assessed Weaknesses : Expanded form, TAG students missing core instruction and flex interventions Suggestions for Improvements : Increased focus on Expanded form utilizing the following: Exit Slip, Calendar Time, Technology: IXL and Mathletics

16 2 ND G RADE C OMMON ASSESSMENT WORK Priority Standard (2.NBT.8, 2.NBT.9, 2.OA.1, 2.OA.2) Mental Math Unit 2 Formative Strengths : Basic addition was easier than subtraction overall Weaknesses : Wording in problem #13 may have been reason for so many student’s missing that question; Some students had difficult time lining up columns for place value which caused them to miss the problems. Suggestions for Improvement : Revised #13 wording on assessment, Exit slips, Flashcards, Utilizing formative assessment to determine flex grouping
