Article IV States must honor the laws of other states States must treat all citizens equally Extradition- Criminals cannot hide in other states. Must be turned in to the state where the crime was committed Creation and admission of new states

Article V Amendment- a change or addition to the Constitution 2/3’s of both Houses (Senate and H.O.R) or can propose amendments 2/3’s of state legislatures can ask Congress to propose amendment ¾’s of State legislatures or State Conventions have to ratify amendment Ratify- to approve

Article VI Federal Government will pay off the debts from the war and Articles of Confederation Supremacy Clause- Federal laws outrank state laws.

Anti-Federalists Goal: Against ratification, demanded a Bill of Rights Views: Constitution gave too much power to Federal Government, would limit or take away people’s rights, power should belong to state governments Supporters- poor farmers, uneducated, lower class Thomas Jefferson

2 nd Amendment—Right to bear arms “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed.”

3 rd Amendment The Government cannot force you to shelter soldiers in your home without your consent in time of war or peace.

4 th Amendment Right to privacy No illegal search and seizures without a warrant

5 th Amendment Everyone is guaranteed Due Process of Law No Double Jeopardy- charged with same crime twice Don’t have to testify against yourself Need a Grand Jury Indictment Government has to compensate you if they take your property

6 th Amendment Speedy trial by jury Right to lawyer Informed of why you were arrested Ability to provide and question witnesses

7 th Amendment Trial by jury in Civil Cases

8 th Amendment No cruel and unusual punishment or excessive bail

9 th Amendment and 10 th amendments 9 th - People have other rights besides those protected by the Bill of Rights. 10 th - Powers not given to the Federal Government belong to the States (Reserved Powers)
