Do Now: Quick Write: Is safety an illusion? We like to feel that there are steps we can take to keep ourselves safe. To protect ourselves from theft, we can install an alarm or add high-security locks. To protect our health, we can exercise and eat healthy food. But do our precautions really keep danger away, or do they just give us an illusion of safety? Develop an argument for or against the question, Is safety an illusion? Choose at least two examples to support your argument. (5-7 minutes) EQ: EQ: How do authors use symbolism and allegory to develop the theme of the text? ELACC9/10RL5: Analyze how an author’s choices of structure create effects such as mystery, tension, or surprise. ElaCC10RL2: Determine a theme or central idea of text and analyze in detail the development over the course of the text. Agenda: Do Now!
