2 Energy States  Endothermic takes in energy as a reaction occurs, whereas an exothermic reaction gives off energy during a reaction. (As shown in the pictures to the right.)

3 Endothermic  As an endothermic reaction takes in energy it will give off a cold feeling, after the reaction has taken place.  If you dissolve ammonium nitrate in water it will give off the cold feeling (the essence of commercial cold packs)  Such as the reaction Mr. Listorti did in class when the beaker of water stuck to the block of wood, because the drop of water froze under the beaker.  As an endothermic reaction takes in energy it will give off a cold feeling, after the reaction has taken place.  If you dissolve ammonium nitrate in water it will give off the cold feeling (the essence of commercial cold packs)  Such as the reaction Mr. Listorti did in class when the beaker of water stuck to the block of wood, because the drop of water froze under the beaker.

4 Exothermic  As an exothermic reaction gives off energy, it will give off heat, after the reaction has taken place.  As the temperature of the reaction increases the molecules move slower.  An example could be lighting a match, lighting a piece of paper on fire and let it burn, or a camp fire. All give off heat, but different amounts.  As an exothermic reaction gives off energy, it will give off heat, after the reaction has taken place.  As the temperature of the reaction increases the molecules move slower.  An example could be lighting a match, lighting a piece of paper on fire and let it burn, or a camp fire. 5 Conclusion  Endothermic is and energy state when it absorbs heat and gives off a cold feeling and molecules move at a faster rate.  Exothermic is the energy state when it gives off heat and molecules move at a slower rate.  Endothermic is and energy state when it absorbs heat and gives off a cold feeling and molecules move at a faster rate.  Exothermic is the energy state when it gives off heat and molecules move at a slower rate.
