When Barstow PD took over fire dispatching we added: 1 New Console Upgrade of all computer equipment to accommodate the needs of police and fire.

Tri-Tech programmed all computers to enable fire calls to be inputted into our system. Toning and paging were programmed into our computer systems by county radio (ISD). Radio frequencies for police and fire talk groups were programmed on all Barstow public safety radios. Dispatchers completed a ride-a-long with the Barstow Fire Department. Dispatchers received training on computer data input for fire and medical aid calls.

All Dispatchers have attended the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch and are Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certified. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified.

On February 4, 2013 Barstow Police was scheduled to begin dispatching for Barstow Fire at 08:00 hours. At 07:58 hours Dispatcher Carolyn Hawkins received the 1 st call.

2 Dispatchers on duty 24-7. Increased service for citizens of Barstow. Police Officer and Firefighter safety has improved because of the combined communication center. Alleviated the use of PD staff to relieve Dispatcher(s) for breaks.

Dispatchers are familiar with the geography of the City, Freeways, & County areas. Dispatch time improved by 1 min 49 sec for Barstow Fire Dept.
