Chapter 4-8 Maximum Power Transfer Superposition
2
Power companies are in the business of the generation, transmission, and distribution of power. In communications the distance is limited to the power the transceiver is capable of delivering to the transmission medium. So the concepts of power transfer efficiency and amount of transfer are important.
3
Conditions for maximum power from a system to a load The question is there a value of the loads resistance that permits maximum power delivery?
5
Max power transfer when the load resistance is equal to the Thevenin resistance of the system
6
Find the load resistance for max power
7
Find the power generated
8
What is the max power delivered What is the efficiency
9
You Do, Find load For max power

Superposition Theorem: Whenever a linear system is excited by more than independent source of energy, the total response can be computed from the sum of the individual responses. The circuits we are looking at contain linear-circuit elements Is used in circuit analysis or design, probably more useful in design. In design, the approach is to combine several simple components to achieve a more complex design.
11
The concept: Design a circuit that cuts the amplitude of a 8 volt peak to peak sin wave in half, and shifts the negative peaks to zero.
12
Example using superposition in analysis: Look at the circuit with only one source active, for each source, while the other sources are deactivated. Recall to deactivate sources: A.Short circuit -- Voltage sources B.Open circuit -- Current sources
