Definition Asperger syndrome is a form of autism. It affects behaviour, social interaction. However, linguistic and cognitive skills are preserved.

History Asperger syndrome was named after Hans Asperger, in 1944. This Austrian pediatrician studied some children with trouble to communicate. He established a diagnosis to find some solutions and help them blossom.

Society and people with Asperger Asperger syndrome was not known, until Hans Asperger’s discovery, in 1944. Until 1990’s, people with Asperger syndrome were considered like kind of « ill » people, because they don’t think and communicate like the majority of people. They used to be called « idiot savants »

Media influences Media play an important role in democratizing Asperger syndrome. Movies, books, medical journals, teach us a lot about Asperger syndrome.

Rain Man Directed by Barry Levinson, in 1988. With Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman. Dustin Hoffman played a man with Asperger.

Conclusion As a conclusion, Asperger syndrome is evolving. The society is beginning to help people with Asperger, understand their needs and listen to their skills. If this syndrome can be associated to a disease, is also considered as a gift. Even if you are different, you can bring something to other people.
