Sunflower Seed Germination Lab By: Amanda, Jay, Hailey, and Qandeel
2
Lab Question and Procudure Will sunflower seeds germinate faster in soil in or in just water? We will plant sunflower seeds in a pot of soil and water it and also in a plastic bag with a paper towel soaked with water.

Journal We planted the seeds Friday, March 11 th and on Monday, March 14 th, we checked the plants in the greenhouse. The seeds in the bag soaked with water sprouted. All the seeds had split and light green sprouts emerged that look like tadpoles. The dirt, however, dried out and did not produce any sprouts. The seeds in the bag took 3 days to germinate

Conclusion The green bean plant failed to sprout, we believe it was due to a series of changes in the weather in the greenhouse and the temperature which we grew the plants in. The week we grew the sunflower seeds When we switched to the sunflower the plant successfully grew in the bag and not in the soil. Therefore our hypothesis was proved wrong.

Follow Up of Sunflower The American Indian was the first to use the sunflower. Sunflower oil is used in salad dressings, for cooking and in the manufacturing of margarine and shortening. It is used in industry for making paints and cosmetics. The roasted seeds make a coffee type drink. The Chinese have used the fiber from stems for fabrics and paper. The pith (the interior of the stalk) is one of the lightest substances known and is used in scientific labs. Today in America the most common use for the sunflower is the consumption of the seeds, and the use of them as recreational flowers in common gardens.
