2 BACKGROUND  Date of birth: January 15, 1929  Place of birth: Atlanta, Georgia  Date of death: April 4, 1968  Family makeup: Parents- Michael, Sr. and Alberta King (father adopted the name Martin Luther King, Sr., which his son did as well.) Siblings- Willie Christine (sister) and Alfred Daniel Williams (brother) Wife- Coretta Scott Children- Four children

3 IMPORTANT EVENTS  Montgomery Bus Boycott (1955)- fought segregation on buses  Southern Baptist Leadership Conference (1957)- fought for blacks’ rights including voting, segregation, labor rights, and other civil rights.  Albany Movement (1961)- demonstration again segregation  Birmingham Campaign (1963)- fought racial segregation and economic injustice  St. Augustine, Fl (1964)- played role in Civil Rights Act of 1964  Selma, Al (1964)- fought for voter registration  New York City (1964)- discussed sad condition of African Americans  March on Washington (1963)- fought for jobs and freedom  Selma Voting Rights and Bloody Monday (1965)- march for voting rights  Chicago Open Housing Movement (1966)- fought for equal rights  Poor People’s Campagn (1968)- fought against civil disobedience

4 IMPACTS AND RELATIONS  Martin Luther King, Jr.’s famous speech impacted the world promoting equality and civil liberty for all.  Martin Luther King, Jr. dies in the middle of The Wednesday Wars and his death impacted many of the characters.
