2 Type of Energy Transfer Heat energy can travel in 3 different ways. Radiation, Conduction, Convection

3 Consequence of Radiation People can feel the heat of infrared radiator that is transferred through air. However, the amount of heat that people receive is only three quarter. Colder air of the room is replaced by hot air. As gas circulates in the room, convection occurs. Ex) The infrared radiation and visible radiation from the sun pass through the glass of the greenhouse and are absorbed by the plants and the ground. The plants and ground re-emits radiation,which gets trapped in greenhouse, therefore the temperature increases.

4 The vacuum flask The vacuum flask is used to maintain the temperature of hot or cold drink.

5 Vacuum flask The conduction of the vacuum flask is minimized by the glass of the neck. The glass is a poor conduction. The convection of the vacuum flask is eliminated by the vacuum between inner wall and outer wall, which prevents form of convection. The radiation of the vacuum flask is reduced because inner wall of flask is covered with aluminium. Since the aluminium is inside vacuum, the liquid inside the flask will not emit radiation.
