 Robert Frost was born in San Francisco, CA  Robert Frost’s Father died when he was 11 years old  Robert married Elinor White  He briefly went to Dartmouth collage  He worked many jobs

 He went to Harvard as a special student  But he left early because of the birth of his second child and tuberculosis  Three Years later his second child died  Then he moved to a farmhouse

 He uses Iambic Tetrameter  It means 2 syllables in each metrical foot  Metrical Foot: set of 2 or 3 syllables that forma poetry rhythm  Example: “ He will not see me stopping here ” Pronunciation: “He will / not see / me Stop / ping here”

Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound’s the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.

 Personification is giving an animal human-like characteristic, or giving an inanimate object a life-like characteristic  Quote: "My little horse must think it queer“  He is saying that the horse has the ability to think  Thinking is a Human-Like characteristic

 An Assonance is when a vowel sound is being repeated  Quote: "But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.”  In this quote the “e” sound is being repeated in keep and sleep

 A Hyperbole is when exaggeration is used to emphasis  Quote: "The darkest evening of the year.“  The author is calling the evening the darkest evening of the year, even thought he has no proof of it

 The theme of the Poem is “Rare Beauty”  In the poem the speaker encounters a beautiful scene, enough to halt him and capture his attention.  He is saying that there are Rare Beautiful places in the dark world, just like the beautiful snow scene in the dark woods
