4. The Hudson’s Bay Company is established in 1670 (yes, the Bay – they’re the same). This become France’s direct competition for trading Why were they so successful? MONOPOLY! As well as combining the two types of imperialist trade that are happening at this point (land and resources) We also have new middlemen emerge out of the woodwork – the Cree and Nakoda became middlemen for both the British and the French.

We have now had a lot of different careers that have been created strictly because of the Fur Trade. 1-Minutes brainstorm with the person next to you all of the jobs that didn’t exist until the Fur Trade came along.
