Negative Genre Knowledge In My draft’s sometimes I would have a hard time coming up with things to write about. Staying on topic with the Genre of writing sometimes was difficult. Sometimes I wouldn’t even realize that I was completely off the genre until I had some feedback. A good example of this is my position paper. This was really hard to stay with the genre I was writing. Sometimes I would find myself writing a paragraph that had nothing to do with the one before. So I would have to back track and try to figure out where I left out.
3
Positive Genre Knowledge Some of the Genres were easier. The instructions was my best writing. I found it hard to think of something to instruct, but once I did it was pretty straight forward from there. Another easier one was the proposal. This I believe was because it was the last paper that I wrote. I was very familiar with my public issue. Which made it easier to stay on track, and get my point across.
4
General Knowledge Nick Roush’s Story This being the first paper that I wrote made it very difficult on me. It was the first time I actually had to think about my topic, and try to write my ideas into a paper in a way that was appealing and made since to my readers. The biggest change I made in this paper was adding narration of Nick Roush to help develop more of a profile. Nick-“There was nothing more in life that I wanted other than to serve for my country. I knew that it hurt people close to me that I was going away for awhile, but there is nothing that is going to stop me from doing what I believe is right. There are many things that I am passionate about in this life like my Eclipse, but nothing could amount to how passionate I am about serving for my country.” Nick-“If I’m going to do something serious like join the Military, I’m going to give it my all, and do the very best that I can. Kaleigh doesn’t have to worry about me, when I come home I’m going to be her own personal hero. I don’t want people to look up to me; I just want them to be proud of me, and what I’ve done for this country.”
5
Rhetorical Knowledge I have defiantly developed a better rhetorical view in my writings. My writings have become more creative. I have developed techniques to persuade, using grammar, and logic. In my writings I am aware of my audience, displaying their personal needs, and concerns.
6
Rhetorical Knowledge- Proposal In my proposal I illustrated that we did just sent over 40,000 troops to war. Which I did not agree with this, but understood that it had to be done. So stating this proves my presentation of the issue in the context of the larger debate. Stating that in order to achieve my goal I knew that we need to make some sacrifices.
7
Public Writing There were many ways that I have incorporated facts and arguments surrounding the public issue. Issues that were broad like if we should or should not be in Afghanistan, and things to expect when a loved one leaves for war. Also some issues that were not quite as widely known, but still in the publics eye. Like Nick Roush’s death, and mental illnesses caused from war. I felt like I did a really good job at staying with my public issue in all my writings. Always stating how I felt, and the problem on hand.

Writing From Sources Writing from sources was defiantly the biggest challenge that I faced. I do believe that writing from sources is a very effective way of writing, and providing excellent clear evidence to your claims. The biggest challenge to me was the source page. The way you have to lay it all out is confusing to me. But, I am starting to feel more comfortable with my sourcing.
9
Writing From Sources- Paraphrasing/Quotations Example of Paraphrasing Example of Quotations Fearing for their life because they don’t want to leave there wife, husband, or children. Seeing fellow soldier friends die in battle could also affect Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, as well as many examples like theses. Posttraumatic Stress Disorder could trouble you for days, years, and in some cases a lifetime (Jay Uhler). “No longer are you a little brother, but now, to this older brother, an older brother looking up to his brother. Thank you for being the man I hope to be some day”(Bobby).
10
Writing From Sources- Citing my sources This was defiantly the most confusing part of completing a paper for me. This example I feel demonstrates my best attempt. 11
Design I think I did a good job with my design aspect of the papers. I tried my best to keep a balanced color theme, and make it pleasing to the readers eye. I used different variations of Arial font to keep it interesting, but simple at the same time. I used colors that went with my theme. I placed pictures where I thought was necessary to help portray my point.
12
Proposal design Good balance in colors with titles and boarders. Good use of pictures. I kept it simple, but it was still pleasing to the readers eye.
13
Insturctions Design Steady use of colors in the boarder, and titles. Good use of pictures. Combination of Bullets, and numbering to make it easy to follow while reading.

Conclusion I can defiantly say that I have grown as a writer throughout English 2010. I have learned many different genres of writing. I feel more confident with my writing. Writing Techniques that I will carry with me throughout the rest of my college degree, and life. I know that I still have a lot to learn with writing. But, this class has made writing less dreadful for me.
