Born in London, England in 1964. Currently lives in New York. Got his BFA from Camberwell School of Art, London and also attended Boston University. Has had exhibitions at Dallas Museum of Art; Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston; MASS MoCA; SFMoMA; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami Also has had exhibitions at the Whitney Biennial (1997), Sydney Biennale (2002), and São Paulo Bienale (2004) Worked as a building superintendant before exhibiting art. http://www.pbs.org/art21/artists/ritchie/index.html

Working in a morgue before becoming an artist showed him that all lives must die. He uses the idea of death as a concept in his works. Principles of Thermodynamics and Quantum physics are worked into his paintings. He scans his drawings into the computer so that images can be blown up, taken apart, made smaller or three-dimensional, re- shaped, transformed into digital games, or given to someone else to execute.
