3 Georgetown County Water and Sewer District Awarded “Best Tasting Water” in SC for 2015 SCAWWA Holds Annual Competition at the SC Environmental Conference Myrtle Beach— 03/24/2015 — On Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the25th Annual South Carolina Environmental Conference, hosted by the South Carolina Section of the American Water Works Association (SCAWWA) and the Water Environment Association of South Carolina (WEASC), Georgetown County Water and Sewer District was awarded “Best Tasting Water” for their 2015 submission. This is an annual competition held at the conference and this year’s field showcased 12 competitors vying for the title, including the defending winner from 2014, Greenville Water. “We are exceptionally proud of our ability to produce great tasting water in an environmentally sensitive and cost effective manner for the residents and visitors to Georgetown County, and we have achieved this recognition due to the efforts of the Water Operations Department and all of our hard working employees here at the District,” said Raymond Gagnon, P.E., Executive Director at Georgetown County Water and Sewer District. Water used by the District comes from a number of sources, including the Waccamaw River and treated at the Sandy Island Road Water Treatment Plant as well as various wells and storage tanks located throughout the District’s service area. Georgetown County Water and Sewer District has the privilege of serving over 21,000 customers throughout Georgetown County with a staff of 78 employees led by Executive Director Raymond Gagnon, and a seven member Board of Directors, headed by Chairman William J. Schwartzkopf.
