2 Introduction Solar energy implementation at the Port: Aligns with Green Port Policy Goals Addresses commitments made in the resolution to establish a framework to reduce greenhouse gas emissions –Including Port’s commitment to City-wide program Contributes to State’s goals under AB 32 Siting Study is one of the efforts of the Port’s Renewable Energy Working Group

3 Renewable Energy And GPP In relation to the Green Port Policy, renewable energy will: Protect the community from harmful environmental impacts of Port operations by generating green power which avoids the emission of climate-changing chemicals Distinguish the Port as a leader in environmental stewardship and compliance by contributing to the State’s greenhouse gas reduction goals

4 Renewable Energy and GPP Promote sustainability by providing long- lasting, sustainable and reliable power through one of several financially-responsible approaches Employ best available technology to avoid or reduce environmental impacts and help stimulate the creation of new technologies Engage and educate the community by providing information, partnerships, and lessons- learned about renewable energy

5 Objectives of the Solar Study Examine current solar technologies Estimate solar capacity within the Harbor District Prioritize capacity by economic potential Provide rough costs according to today’s market
