Definitions: Push Factor – A reason why someone would want to leave the country that they originally lived in. Examples: war and unemployment, over-crowding

Pull Factor – A reason why someone would choose a specific location to move to. Examples: peace and employment opportunities, free land Peace Free land

Emigration- When a person EXITS a specific area, they are said to emigrate FROM it. Example: Export people rather than products though Immigration- When a person enters into a new area and calls it home. Coming “IN”

Euro-Canadian immigration is generally divided into 5 categories…. a) French Migration (New France) – 1620 onwards b) Loyalist Migration (during the American Revolution) 1776 onwards c) The Great Migration (British Isles – Ireland and England) 1815 onwards d) Western Canadian Settlement (The Prairie West) 1885 onwards E) 20 th /21 st Century Immigration – 1900 onwards
