Copyright NICE srl, 2010 6 What is Enginframe EnginFrame Grid and Cloud Portal is the gateway to Technical Computing. It is built for all the Engineers, Scientists, Geologists, Analysts, and Researchers using (or wishing to use) Technical Computing and High Performance Computing to solve their complex problems, it is also built to help the business and the IT teams implement, manage and track the use of these Technical Computing resources. EnginFrame delivers access to Applications, Data, and the HPC compute farm (grid, cluster, or cloud) through a standard web browser. The users can submit tasks, process data, run simulations and analyses, and collaborate each other. EnginFrame provides a user-friendly experience, hiding the complexity of the backend. It also offers IT developers a Web 2.0 environment for rapid application integration, security, single sign- on, data management, and creation of a company private Cloud. Built on the open-standards of Java and XML/XSLT.

Copyright NICE srl, 2010 11 iRODS integrated Rule Oriented Data System Open Source Data Grid, Helping People Organize and Manage Large Collections of Distributed Digital Data Key features: Build sharable collections in iRODS from data distributed across file systems and tape archives. iRODS iCAT Metadata Catalog stores state information and descriptive metadata in a database, enabling search, management, controlling and tracking of all data access and manipulation. Rule Engine applies user-defined Policies and Rules to data to automate administrative tasks, enforce management policies, and evaluate assessment criteria, enabling large-scale collections. Federation of multiple iRODS Data Grids enables flexible architectures: central archives, master-slave data grids, chained data grids, and deep archives, through independent but collaborating iCAT Metadata Catalogs.

14
Copyright NICE srl, 2010 14 Enginframe & iRods iRods has no interface, it has just a raw CLI. It is not user friendly and it is really difficult for a no- skilled user to manage rule/query/data. Hide the complexity of the iRods i-commands and give and easy way to get the information from the catalog EF allows to expose the iRods service HTTP, WSDL and REST, so provide a standard interface.
15
Copyright NICE srl, 2010 15 Enginframe & iRods EF enforce the authorization and the authentication system of iRods EF as an API layer for iRods since it adds the possibility to build an easy interaction with third party software. Easy access to audit-tracking Enginframe as an universal gateway of iRods since it is able to access every instance of iRods server (even not federated).
