Key Characteristics of Race & Ethnicity Treating a person/group less favourable because of their cultural background Establishment of customs and practices which systematically reflect and produce racial inequalities Race & Ethnicity Continued isolation of different cultures / insufficient integration between all minorities

Key Characteristics of Disability An disability or impairment that has a substantial impact on an individual’s ability to carry out every day activities

Key characteristics of Gender Recognition of an individuals’ right to express their sexuality without fear of discrimination

Key Characteristics of Age Change in age population Adults required to work beyond 60/65 to maintain their level of income in retirement Reluctance of employers to employ older people conflicts with law

Key Characteristic of Sexuality Individual’s right to express their sexuality without fear of discrimination 1 in 10 people identify themselves as gay, lesbian or bisexual LGB communities have higher rate of mental illness Very high levels of abuse/bullying experienced by young gay people

Inequalities of Race & Ethnicity High levels of unemployment among minorities disabled people are still at far greater risk of poverty than non- disabled people Bangladeshi and Pakistani men are three times more likely to be unemployed than white men the educational attainment of Black Caribbean boys consistently falls below that of their female and white peers the gap between men's and women's earnings has changed little in the last five years. Continued isolation of different cultures / insufficient integration between all minorities
