1 How do I compare the two And how do I choose
AX7 vs AX2012 R3 How do I compare the two And how do I choose Thomas Bonde Ejby Mail: Blog:

2 Short about me Who am I ? Worked with Dynamics AX since 1998
Solution Microsoft R&D SQL DBA & AX MCP TOGAF, ITIL & C-EH Certified GxP Certified Dynamics AX MVP Currently contracting various implementations around the world Areas of interest ? System Integration System Design & Architecture Technical Infrastructure Implementation Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) Been with AX for a thousand years Started out as developer, consultant, focusing on integration interfaces, and data migration Focusing currently on Technical infrastructure design and implementation, using the techniques acquired during 100+ implementation of AX, and also the Skills learned in TOGAF, ITEL, and C-EH 2014 started my own company ad independent contractor working on various installation Currently running a users implementation in Singapore users implementation in Denmark

3 Todays competitors Key take away: Am I an AX 7 user as of Feb 2016 ?
When, why and to what should I upgrade ? Can I use some of the new techniques against my existing AX2012 ? Put the decision in you hand, not mine ! Vs. Today we will talk about AX7 compared to AX2012 R3 I will try to give you a understanding of what’s new I AX, not only where high level, but give you some concrete examples of what is needed for AX7 Hopefully the key takeaways will be for you To understand if you currently as an AX7 potential Also to understand the effort and gains upgrading from your current application Understand the some of the new buzz word also is eligible for AX2012 But mainly to give you an understanding, so that you can make your own decision

8 AX2012 ANALYTICS (ROLE CENTERS + CUBES)
AX2012 BI capabilities are “great - but hard to implement” Barriers to implementing AX2012 BI How AX7 bridges these gaps Complexity of deployments (Cubes, SharePoint...) Cubes need customizations to be useful Light integration with AX stack – requires specialist skills Lack of “real time insights” limits scenarios One DB for analytical and operational workloads with SQL-NCCI (No SharePoint, SSAS..) Scenario focused aggregate models and Power BI content packs In-memory real-time Aggregate data is a first class citizen in data access stack Problem no the Problem Several factors have contributed to this adoption gap: SSAS, Sharepoint and other components required to deploy Role centers and Cubes are complex. Specialist skills required to deploy and maintain BI infrastructure is lacking in our eco-system Pre-built Cubes, most of which were conceived in AX2009 (with improvements in AX2012), are complex and bloated. Customers and partners who deploy pre-built cubes have to make major surgery before they can be adopted. As a result, most partners and ISVs have resorted to building their own Cubes Platform deficiencies such as poor integration with AX data stack as well as lack of incremental processing adds additional strain on IT administrators. As a result, the few customers who have adopted cubes, refresh them only on a nightly basis (in some cases, weekly basis) – thereby perpetuating the late Analytics problem Investments in PowerBI, SQL Server vNext as well as our own investments in the new data access stack and aggregate measurements presents us with a unique opportunity overcome these barriers SQL Azure (as well as boxed versions of SQL server) will support Operational (OLTP) as well as Analytical workloads (OLAP) using the in-memory, non-clustered column store indexes (NCCI). SQL server will have the ability to route Analytical (read-only) workloads to a read-only secondary copy of the database with minimal interference to operational queries. This architecture (which is enabled at the database layer underneath us) greatly reduces complexity and eliminates the need to transform and cache the data in another database (ie. Cubes in SSAS) for analytical processes. Elimination of SSAS and the resulting simplicity has a significant COGS reduction for our customers. AX2012 Perspectives have evolved into AX7 Aggregate Measurements. Once modeled, they can be consumed via Aggregate Data Entities (ADE) or via X++ code. Aggregate measurements and extensions to X++ programming model enables a developer to model KPIs and Charts without having to learn OLAP concepts or domain specific languages such as MDX. PowerBI (offered as a stand-alone version as well as an option in Office365) enables an end user to explore data and share insights with his/her peers. PowerBI content packs (ie. Pre-built dashboards, reports and underlying data models) can be authored using AX OData endpoints exposed by Data entities (including ADEs). Once authored, it will be possible to pin PowerBI visuals into AX workspaces.
