Root Causes for Immigration Globalization – feeding the rate of migration among the peoples of America. It is a process whereby the world’s goods, communications, and peoples are more fully integrated, accessible, and interdependent.

Root Causes for Immigration 1) Unjust Trading System: Poor countries lose $ 700 billion a year due to unfair trade; “Free trade” agreements benefits wealthy corporations and wealthy corporations

Free Trade Developing countries utilize tariffs and taxes on incoming goods to gather revenue for their governments; Free trade agreements eliminate these tariffs and taxes.

Free trade Increases gap between the rich and the poor; The income of the richest 10 percent of the people is 122 times higher than the poorest 10 percent.

Free trade system Uses agricultural subsidies – the US and EU are providing agricultural subsidies. This money goes to a few large agribusinesses who control most of the agricultural production in the U.S.

This allows agricultural production to occur in great quantities; The smaller competitors in the U.S. and in developing countries – knocked out of business.
