2 The 2014 Summer Internship Program In collaboration with Office of International Affairs (OIA) at Yonsei University, the HK Research Team of the Yonsei Institute of Humanities has launched the summer internship program in the summer of 2014. This program will continue for 5 weeks or so, starting at the beginning of July and completing at the early August. Students will be earning three credits with this program. For this year’s program, with the recommendation of (OIA), we have two brilliant students, Madeline Hawk and Song Yi Han, both of whom are from American colleges and have expressed their interests in Korean studies, including Korean language and writing, literature, film, culture, history, etc. Madeline and Song Yi will be conducting researches pertinent to Hangul, the Korean alphabet. Four (research) professors of the Institute from different specialities will be co-advising the two students, counseling them on Korean culture and school life, as well as on their research topics and methodologies.

3 Madeline Hawk Madeline is from Depauw Univ., Michigan, double-majoring in English Literature and Film Studies. She has interests in Korean Studies, including Korean literature and film. With us, she has been conducting an interesting research on how Hangul, the Korean alphabet, is reflected in the urban signs of Korea, more specifically, on the relation of the Design Seoul Project and Tourism with the Branding Seoul Movement.

4 Song Yi Han Originally from Seoul, Song Yi has just finished her sophomore year as a history major at Georgetown University, Washington. She also has interests in political science. With us, she has been doing a research on Hangul calligraphy and typography.
