Introduction of CPR Healthy Heart –Provides oxygen rich blood to the body –Beats 60-100 per minute – Pumps approximately 5-8 Liters of blood per minute – diet, exercise, clean heart, check-ups When the heart stops –Brain, lungs, and other organs stop functioning –Survival chances drop by 7%-10% each minute –brain damage and permanent death after 4-6 minutes –Successful resuscitation diminishes after ten minutes
6
Normal Heart Function

Cardiac Arrest Signs – Loss of consciousness – No palpable pulse –Gasping or no breathing – Blue-ish skin color Facts –Nearly 300,000 cardiac arrests occur each year –92% die before ever reaching the hospital –CPR doubles or triples a person’s chance of survival –Only 32% of victims receive CPR
