Deliver Me From The Enemy In Me! (Romans 7:24) Bibleway Church Complex Bishop Barkley E. Bailey, Facilitator
2
Romans 7:18, 24 & 25 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
3
Deliver Me! Everyone of us in here have something we need deliverance from. Filthiness of the flesh and spirit (2 Cor. 7:1) Not a single person is without some kind of fault.
4
Who Shall Deliver Me? The Noun That Acts Like a Verb!
5
Deliver Me! Not a single person is without some kind of fault. 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
6
Confession – (Romans 10:9- 11) 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
7
Godly Sorrow - 2 Corinthians7:8-10 8 For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season. 9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
8
Godly Sorrow - 2 Corinthians7:8-10 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. Made sorrow after a godly manner so that no harm was done. Godly sorrow always works to the salvation of those who exercise it.
9
Deliver Me From The Domination of Sin Domination – the exercise of control or influence over someone or something, or the state of being so controlled. Synonyms: rule, government, control, sovereignty, command, authority, power, dominance, mastery, supremacy, superiority, ascendancy, sway.
10
Deliver Me From The Enemy In Me The Two Nature Conflict The Scriptures Teach Two Natures One received by natural birth, which is wholly and hopelessly bad. A new nature received through spiritual birth, which is the nature of God Himself, and therefore wholly good.
11
The Two Nature Conflict There is a conflict between the new, divine nature, which is Christ’s own, and the old nature. Paul said, “Yet not I, but Christ liveth in me.” He also said, “For I know that in me, dwelleth no good thing” (Rom. 7:18) The battle between the two “I’s” (Rom. 7:14-25)
12
Romans 7:23-25 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
13
Two Natures of Believers Nicodemus’ Visit to Jesus (John 3:6) For that which is born of flesh is flesh; and that which is born of Spirit is Spirit. Here we have two lines of heredity – the flesh line and the Spirit line. The Scriptures speak of the first as the Natural Man, and the second as the Spiritual Man.
14
The Flesh Nature The Old or Adam Nature/The Natural Man Shapen in iniquity (Ps. 51:5) Deceitful above all (Jer. 17:9) None righteous (Rom. 3:10-12) Produces after its kind (Gen. 6:4) Imagination of the thoughts evil (Gen.6:5) & (Mark 7:21-23) Receive not the things of the Spirit (1 Cor. 2:14; Eph. 4:18) Carnal mind is enmity (Rom. 8:7-8) Conversation in times past (Eph. 2:3)
15
The New Nature The Spiritual Man - regeneration is a crea- tion, not a mere transformation-but the bring in a new thing, not the change of an old. Born again (John 1:12-13 & 3:3) Children by faith in Christ (Gal. 3:26) Not all who are born, but all who are born again are the children of God (Luke 3:38) Created in righteousness (Eph. 4:24) New creature (2 Cor. 5:17)
16
The New Nature The Spiritual Man Linked with Christ (Gal. 2:20) Christ in you, the hope of glory (Col. 1:27) Dead and life hid with Christ (Col. 3:3-4; Rom. 8:10) Partakers of the divine nature (2 Pet. 1:4) Brings eternal life (1 John 5:11-12)
17
Conducting The Warfare Between The Two Natures 1.We cannot get rid of the old nature until the death of our body of flesh. 2.We must not try to improve or make a fair showing of the flesh. (Gal. 6:12; Phil 3:4) 3.We must starve the flesh. (Rom. 13:14) 4.We must feed the new nature. (1 Pet. 2:2) 5.We must walk in the Spirit. (Gal. 5:16)
18
No Excuse For Walking In Flesh Our old man must be crucified. The power of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19; Gal. 5:16-17) Mortify deeds of body (Rom. 8:13) Crucify the old man (Rom. 6:6-11) Have no confidence in the flesh (Phil. 3:3) Make no provision for the flesh (Rom. 13:14) Not debtors to the flesh (Rom. 8:12)
19
Four Ways To Overcome 1.By Amputation (Matt. 18:8-9) 2.By Mortification (Col. 3:5-10; Rom. 8:13; Phil. 2:12-13-) 3.By Limitation (Heb. 12:1) 4.By Crucifixion (Gal. 2:20)
