Procedure of Abdominal Examination Definition Abdominal examination during pregnancy is a visual, tactile and audible examination of the woman’s abdomen. kemo2009

Objectives Of Abdominal Examination are to :- Confirm pregnancy. Estimate the period of gestation Assess fetal health, size & growth. Diagnose the location of fetal parts ( presentation, lie, position and engagement). Assess fetal movement & fetal heart sound ( FHS) Detect any deviation from normal. kemo2009

lie long axis of the fetus ( spine )is aligned to the mother’s Longitudinal ◦ long axis of the fetus ( vertically )is aligned to the mother’s ◦ this is the only NORMAL position Transverse ◦ long axis of the fetus is horizontally to that of the mother’s kemo2009
