1 TOPIC 2: LOOK AFTER MYSELF FOOD GROUPS CARBOHYDRATES AND FIBRE PROTEINS AND IRON FRUITS AND VEGETABLES DAIRY PRODUCTS FATS Carbohydrates give us energy Fibre is good for our digestion Examples: pasta, rice, potatoes, cereals. To build muscle and make us strong Examples: meat, fish, pulses, eggs Vitamins, minerals and fibre to keep us healthy, to grow and to protect ourselves from illnes Made from milk Rich in calcium which keeps our bones and teeth healthy Examples: cheese, milk, yoghurt They help our brain and nervous system Examples: olive oil, salmon, nuts, avocados.

2 Healthy snacks BANANAS YOGHURTS CARROTS HAM POTASSIUM: GOOD FOR YOUR HEART CALCIUM: HELPS TO MAKE OUR BONES STRONG VITAMIN A: KEEPS OUR EYES HEALTHY CONTAINS LOTS OF PROTEINS, IMPORTANT FOR BUILDING MUSCLE Healthy habits Wash your hands: it protects you from cold and flu and stomach upsets Brush your teeth: it protects you from tooth decay Do lots of exercise to avoid obesity Not smoking helps you avoid respiratory problems Resting helps you to avoid tiredness

3 CIRCULATORY SYSTEM It moves BLOOD through the heart and around the body in the arteries and veins. BLOOD gives our body nutrients and oxygen Respiratory System It is a group of organs that work together to help us BREATH We breathe AIR through our NOSE and MOUTH The air goes down into our LUNGS OXYGEN is passed to the circulatory system where it moves around the body. We breathe in OXYGEN and breathe out CARBON DIOXIDE

4 DIGESTIVE SYSTEM It is a group of organs that work together to help us DIGEST FOOD. We take in FOOD through our MOUTH It passes down into our STOMACH and INTESTINES The intestines separate the NUTRIENTS from the WASTE and expel ther waste from our body. The nutrients are passed to the CIRCULATORY SYSTEM, where they move around the body. The stages of life BABIES: They need lots of attention from their parents. CHILDREN: From 18 months to 12 ADOLESCENTS: Their bodies change a lot ADULTS: Our bodies stop growing. ELDERLY PEOPLE: They have a lot of experience but sometimes they need help to do things.
