This has led to multiple political extremist organizations in conflict with western ideas of liberal democracy Al-Qaeda: Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri The Taliban: Mullah Omar

11 Other Terms to Know In This Unit Relating to Islam Jihad- “to struggle”,”supreme effort” (in defense of the faith) Martyr- one who dies for a cause Fatwa- a religious edict (order) Imam- a Muslim teacher (cleric) Ayattollah- Shia Muslim cleric Mosque- a Muslim place of worship Islamic Revolution- begins in Iran-1979. Replacing modern government with theocracy.
