General Safety Information Information used to help prevent accidents in the shop

General Safety Rules Rules that deal with other people in the shop Rules that make working with machinery safer Rules that make working with materials safer

General Safety Rules (cont.) Do not disturb or talk to others using machines Unless they have put themselves in a dangerous situation You are helping them with a process Running, fooling around, or horseplay are forbidden in the shop Always keep your balance, do not over reach

General Safety Rules (cont) Machines are not to be operated while the teacher is out of the room During School The teacher is absent, even if there is a substitute The teacher is running an errand During passing periods After school

General Safety Rules (cont) Report any accident to the teacher regardless of the nature or severity of the injury Keep all tools sharp and in safe working order Report any defective or broken tool, machine or other equipment to the teacher. Bring the tool to the teacher if possible. Do NOT put a broken tool back in the cabinet.

MSDS Sheets MSDS- Material Safety Data Sheet Available from the manufacture and www.msds.com Provide crucial information about specific materials and chemicals used in this class

General Safety Rules (cont) Use ALL guards and safety devices Except with Authorization and Supervision of the teacher Operate machines only after Passing the safety test with 100% Seeing the demonstration of the machine Being checked off by the teacher under supervision

General Safety Rules (cont) Arrange machines safely Turn off the power and wait for the blade to stop turning before leaving a machine Make all adjustments to the guards, fences, and machines BEFORE turning on the machine Disconnect the power from a machine before Performing a maintenance task Changing the blade

General Safety Rules (cont) Use tools for the job they were designed for If a machine makes any unusual noises, Shut off the machine Get the teacher Clean the chips from a machine with a brush, not your hands or a rag

General Safety Rules (cont) Keep the shop floor clear of scraps and litter Clean up any spilled liquids immediately Oily rags and oily waste must be stored in a closed metal container Flammable liquids are not to be poured down the sink
