Explanation of SOL Tests Standards of Learning were created by the State of Virginia to standardize what is being taught to students across the state SOL tests were designed to assess and monitor how students are meeting those teaching objectives Given across the state to students in grades 3,4,5,6,8, and subject specific in high school

10 Test-Taking Tips for Students 1.Show all of your work and your thinking 2.Manage your time 3.Read directions carefully and highlight key words 4.Answer all of the test questions 5.Eliminate answer choices with the e-tool eliminator

10 Test-Taking Tips for Students 6.Read all of the answer choices 7.Don’t spend too much time on one question—skip it and come back, but make sure you answer everything when you are finished 8.Check over your answers TWICE 9.Be sure to get enough sleep and eat a good hardy breakfast.

All fourth graders will take a test in the following areas… Virginia Studies – they will take this test first. Reading – they will take the reading test over two days. Math – this will also be tested over two separate days.

Characteristics of the Test Multiple choice questions and Technology Enhanced Items (TEI) All test questions will be answered on the computer Questions can be written in confusing and tricky manner for the students Requires students to rely on many different skills to answer correctly, not just knowing the content
