British history The territory England was inhabited by ancient of modern people 800,000 years ago.

British history The stone circles of Avebury and Stonehenge reflect pre-Celtic period.

British history British history includes the Celts, Romans, the Middle Ages, the royal houses of England and Britain, epidemic of Plague, revolutions and wars.

British people Many people of all colours and races came to Britain but they learnt its national culture and traditions.

English character One of the main features of English life is the self- discipline and politeness.

English character Englishmen like their houses, gardens and sport. The fireplace is the traditional part of a house.

English meals Englishmen have 4 meals a day: breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner. Breakfast includes cornflakes, milk or bacon and eggs.

English meals Lunch consists of fried fish, chops, vegetables. Afternoon tea is taken at 5 o'clock.

Ceremonies Foreigners coming to London are impressed by a number of old ceremonies.

Ceremonies The most popular ceremony is “Changing the Guard”, which takes place at Buckingham Palace every day at 11:30. The uniform of the guards is coloured- red tunics, blue trousers and bearskin caps.

Ceremonies “Ceremony of keys” takes place every night at 9:53 p.m. When the chief Warder of the Tower carries the keys to the gates and locks them.

Traditions When one sees the warders at the Tower of London with their funny hats and dresses with royal monograms, one feels carried back to the age of Queen Elizabeth Ι.

Traditions The same tradition makes the Eton boys (from college founded by Henry VI) put on a silk hat, short jacket and long trousers.

Traditions In the city of London you can see the bank messengers who put on top-hats according to traditions.

Traditions English judges and advocates wear official black dresses and white wigs as 200 years ago.

Symbols Every country has its own symbols. The Houses of Parliament, political parties, palaces, towers, national emblems and red buses are the main symbols of England.

Holidays Most of holidays in Britain (Christmas Day, Easter, Halloween) have religious origin.

Culture Art, culture, literature flowered during different periods of history. Modern monuments, museums, galleries are everywhere in Britain.

Culture London is one of the leading world centers for music, festivals, cinema and theatre.

Conclusion Great Britain has a long and rich history, many achievements of science and industries.

Conclusion Learning its customs and traditions we have known more information about famous persons, habits of the British and their culture.
