Bellwork Grab the stuff you need for class (IQWST book, ISN from the crate, writing utensil) Be in your assigned seats when the bell rings Discuss the following questions with your partner…no you don’t have to write them, but you better have an answer ready! Was there any oxygen in what you exhaled? How do you know? Where does oxygen go in your body?

Question… We learned last class period that inhaled oxygen contains about 21% O 2 and exhaled oxygen contains only 17% O 2, what happened to the oxygen when it was in the body? Where does all the CO 2 come from that is exhaled?

Today we are going to explore the organs of the respiratory system Nose and Mouth Did You Know that the nose produces a new layer of mucus every 18-20 minutes All those pollutants the cilia catch cause boogers!

Trachea/Windpipe j You have cilia and mucus in your trachea too! What do you think the purpose of the cilia and mucus are in the nose and trachea?

Bronchial Tubes k Oxygen can go right or left. Left lung is slightly smaller to accommodate the heart

Alveoli k Your chest expands because of the billions of alveoli fill up with oxygen at the same time
