8 Diphthongs sch = sounds like „sh“ s = followed by a consonant has a „sh“ sound s = followed by a vowel sounds like the letter z ch = varies per the term and where the ch is located, will need to be learned with each new vocabulary term; ch which is preceded by a vowel has a sound similar to the „sk“ in the word ask or the word ax th = sounds like „t“ qu= sounds like „kv“ where each letter has a sound k= is pronounced before the consonant „n“ like in the word Knie (knee) ß= the s-set has the same sound as two „ss“ in a word, not used often in today’s German

9 Things to Consider I would recommend that you spend time reviewing the web sites used in today‘s presentation. You can find them on my web site by the end of today. Review them and practice saying them for the oral test over them next week, Tuesday. This test is worth 50 points. We will be working on spelling and using the letters daily until and after the test.
