2 Rome, 8/10/2012Kick-off meeting - 2 Digital Cultural Heritage – Roadmap for Preservation DCH-RP WP5 WP5 aims to proof in concrete experiments the concepts established by WP3. Two proofs will be carried out: the results of the proofs will inform the evolution of the Roadmap design. The execution of the proofs of concept will be based on the re- use of the eCulture Science Gateway produced by INDICATE. Content will be uploaded using upgraded service with the function that will enable the content providers to store their data.

3 Rome, 8/10/2012Kick-off meeting - 3 Digital Cultural Heritage – Roadmap for Preservation Proof of concepts 6 pilot sites for the proof of concepts are foreseen in Europe, under the lead of EGI.eu: - Italy with e-infrastructure facilities provided by INFN and data provided by ICCU - Poland with e-infrastructure facilities and data provided by PSNC - Hungary with e-infrastructure facilities provided by NIIFI and data provided by Hungarian cultural institutions that will cooperate with NIIFI - Sweden, Belgium and Estonia, with e-infrastructure facilities provided by the NGI exploiting the Memorandum of Understanding signed in the frame of DC-NET and data provided by the DCH-RP partners.

4 Rome, 8/10/2012Kick-off meeting - 4 Digital Cultural Heritage – Roadmap for Preservation Cooperation between the National Archives and SUNET (Swedish NREN) The National Archives and the Swedish Research Council have a common interest in using the SUNET infrastructure The National Archives wants to make use of the SUNET infrastructure, and the associated services and expertise for the digital cultural heritage. SUNET is interested to add digital cultural heritage institutions to its customer list and provide the necessary services to them. Therefore, they are willing to work together to contribute to the set up of a European e-infrastructure for digital cultural heritage - MoU DC-net

5 Rome, 8/10/2012Kick-off meeting - 5 Digital Cultural Heritage – Roadmap for Preservation SUNET and the Swedish Research Council SUNET (Swedish University Computer Network) is dedicated to support the needs of the research and education communities within Sweden. Apart from offering high- capacity computer networks, SUNET also hosts a wide variety of different services for connected organizations. The services of SUNET are government funded and connected organisations are charged for services. The Swedish Research Council is administratively responsible for SUNET. The Swedish Research Council is an authority inside the Department of Education and Culture, and is the largest Swedish funding agency for basic research at Swedish universities, colleges and institutes.

6 Rome, 8/10/2012Kick-off meeting - 6 Digital Cultural Heritage – Roadmap for Preservation SweGrid - The Swedish GRID Initiative Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (SNIC) is a resource which collects qualified access to computing capacity for Swedish research. It includes networks, data storage, computers, visual representation and different Grid technologies. SweGrid: e-Infrastructure for computing and storage SweGrid forms the Swedish national grid initiative, providing services for computing and storage. Resources providing grid- services are hosted by the six participating SNIC-centers. SweGrid is a part of the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI) SweGrid is mostly funded by the Swedish research council (VR) partially via SNIC and partially with funds. During 2012 SNIC will be transferred administratively from the Swedish Research Council to a host university.

9 Rome, 8/10/2012Kick-off meeting - 9 Digital Cultural Heritage – Roadmap for Preservation The organisation of the proof of concept will be based on the following preliminary activities: - selection of the content to be used for the test, - description of the content that will be used for the testing (text, bibliographic records, image repositories, audio-visual repositories, etc.), - institutions involved and contact persons - If the test will be related to dark archiving or operational archiving, -if the content used for the testing is open or reserved; -approximate quantity of content that will be used for the testing.

11 Rome, 8/10/2012Kick-off meeting - 11 Digital Cultural Heritage – Roadmap for Preservation SND (Swedish National Data Service) SND is a service organisation for Swedish research within the humanities, social sciences and health sciences. SND is hosted by Gothenburg University who respectively together with the Swedish Research Council support SND economically. SND help enable Swedish and international researchers gain access to existing data within and outside of Sweden. SND is the Swedish node in an international network of data archives. This network is an important part of the research infrastructure.
