2 Facts About Tobacco One puff = 4,000 harmful chemicals Thousands of these chemicals cause cancer More than 400,000 people die from smoking every year. It can be smoked or chewed. A pack of cigarettes can cost up to $11.

3 What is in Tobacco? Nicotine- addictive, or habit forming drug found in tobacco – Once you are addicted the body has a strong need for it. This is what keeps people smoking over and over again. – It makes your heart beat faster – Raises blood pressure – Causes dizzines – Upset stomach – Reduces the amount of oxygen your blood carries to the brain.

4 What is in Tobacco? Tar- a thick, dark liquid that forms when tobacco burns – Tar coats the airways and lining of lungs – Lungs coated with tar can become diseased. Carbon Monoxide – A colorless, odorless, poisonous gas produced when tobacco burns. it damages the brain and heart by reducing the amount of oxygen available to these organs.

5 Other Deadly Substances Cyanide – A deadly poison that is commonly found in pest control products. Formaldehyde – A burning, stinging gas that is used as a preservative in the laboratory. Methyl Ethyl Ketone – Used in solvents and harms the CNS.
