ANZAC Cove 1915 Today

The ANZACS were on the Gallipoli Peninsula for only 8 months. There is no town called "Gallipoli". It is the name of an area. ANZAC Day is celebrated in countries such as New Zealand, France, England as well as Australia. The evacuation from Gallipoli of the ANZACs was on 20 December 1915. By then, 8,141 had been killed or died of wounds and more than 18,000 had been wounded. The ANZACs were all volunteers. April 25, ANZAC Day, was the day the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915.

Every ANZAC Day traditional AFL rivals Collingwood and Essendon play a football game to remember the ultimate sacrifice our soldiers gave.

Returned servicemen and women from various wars take part in marches on ANZAC Day each year.

The poppy is worn on ANZAC Day by allied countries such as Australia as a symbol of remembrance.

There are many war cemeteries and graves in Australia and overseas. Most are identified but many remain unknown.

Servicemen and women and civilian Australians celebrate ANZAC Day whilst overseas such as in Iraq and at Gallipoli in Turkey.

Australian War Memorial-Tomb of the Unknown Soldier The Unknown Soldier honours the memory of all those men and women who laid down their lives for Australia. His tomb is a reminder of what we have lost in war and what we have gained.
