2 REPORT WRITING IN GRANTS MANAGEMENT Report Writing is a process of rendering stewardship accounting on project execution. It is normally done in two parts: Narrative and Financial. Narrative Report: This is a written report basically prepared to highlight the outcome of a study of the facts and implications of a particular project execution.  It is intended to summarise the facts of the project execution, relate them to what the Principal Investigator is currently doing, draw appropriate conclusions and make useful recommendations.  It is prepared by the Principal Investigator, dated and signed.

3 Financial Report: This summarises the actual expenditure incurred on the project execution to date and comparing it with the approved project budget. It is a performance report that would highlight variances (if any) and offer explanation for such variances.  It is prepared by the Designated Administrator (Accountant) in Bursary Department already named on the project.  It must be dated and signed.  The reported actual expenditure must have satisfied all due process necessary in the disbursement of fund in compliance with the project budget as contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).  Financial Report must be prepared in accordance with Grantor’s format.

4 Qualities of a Good Report  It must follow a presentable format (layout).  It must be clear and logical.  It must be in line with the Grantor’s requirements.  It must be kept simple, factual and free from errors.
