3 Problems With Measures Sally wants to put up three shelves in her kitchen. Each shelf is 80cm long. Wood is sold in 2m lengths. How much wood will she need to buy? How much wood will be wasted? These are mixed units, what needs to be converted? 2m = 200cm 200cm – 80cm = 120cm 120cm – 80cm = 40cm Sally can get two shelves from one piece of wood. She will waste 40cm. To make three shelves she needs to buy 2 pieces of wood. She will waste 40cm from the first piece of wood. And 120cm from the second piece. Total wastage 160cm.
