Mspace overview video mSpace brings info together from diverse sources Lets one explore relationships btwn them And brings Services together, like GPS, ratings, buddy services, information, ordering in one controllable UI For instance, imagine a day in London… Mspace mobile video

Dissolving Boundaries between Us and Information

Key features: Web Service integration of info services Ordering tickets on-line and on-device Open integration with third- parties Dissolving Boundaries btwn Us and Technology
13
Dissolving Boundaries btwn Us and Time Have I been here before? Where will I go later How do people with similar views to mine rate these places? Should I have been here before?
14
Dissolving Boundaries Between People Key feature: Web Services for Buddy Ratings Innovation: Lightweight interactions with buddies that get stored and reused [picture of ratings in ui]

Mspace mobile: dissolving boundaries Boundaries - physically - can’t see or don’t know Intellectually - aren’t experts in everything Temporal - where was I? where might I go? Personally - communication, sharing. Technologies - different web sites, gps,…. Picture of pda
16
Motivation: to dissolve boundaries We developed the mSpace framework (to do what???) (a) to improve access to information and (b) let us explore relationships across distributed sources. For instance We added new dimensions: location sensitivity and mobility to explore info in the real world - dissolve boundaries [video] Multiple sources
17
Architecture Web Services: MK, MQ and Buddy Service
18
Innovative Technologies: Semantic Web Next generation languages for the Web to encode ‘meaning’ that machines can decipher
19
Web-Scale Data Reuse of Wikis, Open Source Data, Blogs, Creative Commons
20
Generalisability mSpace mobile is based upon ideas found in the existing mSpace framework The web services are designed to be reused for a wide variety of purposes Many different applications can be created that use them in different ways Data within the web services does not have to be changed to facilitate this
21
Web Scale Data: generalise Data can be sourced from any RDF collection, such as: Internet Movie Database
22
Generalisability Data can be sourced from any RDF collection, such as: Places in London [placeholder]

Innovative Technologies: GPS Location-awareness for mobile devices
25
Innovative Technologies Displaying information on small screens Innovative use of compact framework [Animated gif of the interface]

Web Services We created three.NET services using C#. mSpace Query Service Enables links between Knowledge Services. Allows for community trust bases. mSpace Knowledge Service Forms queries and communicates with triple stores. Uses the garnered information to provide content to requesting mSpace Applications. mSpace Buddy Service Stores information about what you or your buddies like and dislike

Challenges Mobile Application challenges [Animation Pre-hack] [Animation Post-hack]
28
Challenges Query formation: Data access to 3Store using a minimal number of queries to facilitate performance
29
In context views of information Light weight recommendation sharing, yes. Easy visualization of whether or not you have been somewhere and what you thought of it. Multiple views (concert time, historical info about site; other info about what's on display etc) on a single thing via the mspace. Mobile device on the go. mSpace Mobile dissolves boundaries by providing

Future Development Integrate buddy service with MSN Messenger Multiple item selections within columns Improved multiple knowledge base linking [examples] The Past: have I been here before? [multi-column mockup]

Future Development Preview cues, improve access

Business Strategies Sponsored in-list and on-map venue advertising Sponsored preview cues Sponsored information box entries Consultancy services Data Gathering Knowledge Services Set-up Event services [more info e.g. get into about displays, go to websites, opinions about products] [this preview cue In Mspace]
