Livy 29 Read Livy 29. Answer the following questions (in full) in your books: 1) What happens to the Alban people? 2) What happens to the City of Alba? 3) How are the people of Alba described? 4) What happens to the Alban gods? 5) What buildings are un-harmed? Roman assimilation? What similarities are there to Romulus’ conquests?

The missing sections The exam board source booklet skips from 29 to 39! That doesn’t mean you don’t need to know what happened. It just means you won’t get a text extract in the exam from these sections

The Nature and rule of Tullus Tullus was not a very religious king. He does build the original Senate House (Curia Hostilia). Strange things started happening at the end of his reign. Many Romans think this is because he has abandoned the Alban gods. How does Tullus compare to Aeneas and Romulus when looking at ‘foreign gods’?
6
A great plague struck Rome but Tullus didn’t seem too bothered… …until he got it! He tried honouring the gods (particularly Jupiter) by performing a religious ceremony. He botched it! Tullus died when his house was struck by lightning! The people of Rome decided to revive Numa’s religious ways!

Analysis of Tullus Draw a table in your book like so… Go back over your notes (+Livy) and make notes on positive and negative aspects of Tullus’ rule. Don’t just give one word points! Good pointsBad points Extension: What does the kingship of Tullus tell us about Roman relations to war and the Gods?
