Project 1 Laura Gibbons Andy Lee Neil Kruse Mack Burgess Aka. (scrubs) February 27, 2012

Sequence of Activities  Examine Toothbrush  List important functions of the toothbrush  Survey people on what they believe are most important  Analyze results  Benchmarking  Dissection  Concept Generation  Group collaboration on concepts  Progress Report  Pugh Chart

Project Management  We created out copy of project management charts in excel and were able to keep up to date with the dates we had decided on as benchmarks for each part of the project.

We saw these as having the highest ratings when we gave out our survey, which showed that these are the things customers really care about

External Search Activities  We used most of the websites to answer questions for the labs that we did. We had to research other brands of electric toothbrushes, patents on existing ideas, different ways we could incorporate sustainability, and how to generate power.  http://www.oralb.com/products/cross-action-power-max-whitening/ http://www.oralb.com/products/cross-action-power-max-whitening/  http://www.oralb.com/products/buynow.aspx?sku=069055837580&productId=capowermaxwhite http://www.oralb.com/products/buynow.aspx?sku=069055837580&productId=capowermaxwhite  http://www.envirogadget.com/solar-powered/soladey-solar-powered-toothbrush-that-eliminates-need-for- toothpaste/ http://www.envirogadget.com/solar-powered/soladey-solar-powered-toothbrush-that-eliminates-need-for- toothpaste/  http://www.coated.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/solar-toothbrush.jpg http://www.coated.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/solar-toothbrush.jpg  http://www.connect-green.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/how-the-brush-works.jpg http://www.connect-green.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/how-the-brush-works.jpg  www.ehow.comhttp://www.greenguidenetwork.com/article-detail/May-17-2010---The-7-Types-of-Plastic--What- They-Mean-To-Your-Heatlh.-202/ http://www.answers.com/topic/mechanical-advantage www.ehow.comhttp://www.greenguidenetwork.com/article-detail/May-17-2010---The-7-Types-of-Plastic--What- They-Mean-To-Your-Heatlh.-202/http://www.answers.com/topic/mechanical-advantage  https://mail- attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment?ui=2&ik=6f89341ef2&view=att&th=13566a401e1930a8&attid=0.1&disp=inline&realattid=f_gyh11s090&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P_p5qwIE2qCLfVEHEU4THRO&sadet=132898442 3766&sads=7ccnZRWzhrsprELNaxg765gAfUA&sadssc=1 https://mail- attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment?ui=2&ik=6f89341ef2&view=att&th=13566a401e1930a8&attid=0.1&disp=inline&realattid=f_gyh11s090&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P_p5qwIE2qCLfVEHEU4THRO&sadet=132898442 3766&sads=7ccnZRWzhrsprELNaxg765gAfUA&sadssc=1  http://www.lesson.com/http://www.lesson.com/  http://science.howstuffworks.com//cannon-challenge-game.htm http://science.howstuffworks.com//cannon-challenge-game.htm  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_motor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_motor

Criteria Selection We decided on which concepts to choose based off of the PowerPoint Dr. Kremer presented to us about the factors we should most consider: 1. Size – the effect of each concept on the de-orbiting stage size (smaller, better). 2. Cost – the lower the cost the better. 3. Weight – contribution by each concept to the overall stage weight (lighter, better). 4. Power – duration of available secondary power (longer, better). But we also realized that we had to be practical in our design and consider what people actually wanted. We wanted to choose things that people wanted to see in their toothbrush based off of our results from our survey.
