9 jpschools.org LEAP PARENT FACT SHEET 9 The Department created the Parent Guide to LEAP 2016 to provide parents with basic facts about the upcoming LEAP tests, including test schedules, structure, and timing. The guide will be released in today’s district newsletter. The fact sheet also provides parents with links to helpful resources (such as practice tests, sample test questions, and student work from previous assessments) to help them better understand what their child will experience on the test.

10 jpschools.org JPPSS - TESTING TIMES 10 Is a daily e-paper Contains step by step directions and reminders for the day. Delivered daily via email to principals, assistant principals, school test coordinators, monitors, … Posted on the jpschools.org website on the Testing department page in the downloads section – http://jpschools.org/department/testing/ http://jpschools.org/department/testing/

14 jpschools.org ELA and Math Assessment Timing As in 2014-2015, the math and ELA assessments in grades 3-8 are timed. The testing time includes the average amount of time for a student to complete the assessment plus an additional cushion. Students with an extended time accommodation may have the school day to complete a session but may not return to a session the following day. Science will be the same as in 2014-2015, untimed. 27 jpschools.org MATH AND ELA CONSUMABLE TEST BOOKLETS 27 Highlighters and Annotating As in 2014-2015, in the consumable test booklets, students will be able to: Use yellow non-carbon highlighters in the text and questions Make annotations and underline text of the assessment with their pencil Annotate in the questions and answer choices with their pencil while using caution around actual bubbles and answer grids Limit access to subsequent sessions with adhesive seals

28 jpschools.org MATH AND ELA CONSUMABLE TEST BOOKLETS 28 ALERT Stray pencil marks in and around the actual bubbles could interfere with scoring of the document. Underlining, crossing out, or marking up bubbles or answer grids in any way other than to darken the circles for their responses are considered stray marks. Scratch Paper Students will be able use scratch paper. TAs are to give students scratch paper every day. Scratch paper used during assessment administration should be shredded following administration in order to maintain test security.

29 jpschools.org ELA LEAP ADMINISTRATION 29 Students will be provided blank paper (blank, lined, or graph) by the test administrator on which to do their planning. There is only space for the student’s final written response in the test booklet. ALERT Students will not provided with a Writer’s Checklist or a rough draft page, beyond the blank paper provided. Students will not be allowed to use dictionaries and thesauruses on any part of the test. However, the scoring of the written responses takes into account the absence of resources and the time constraints of each task.

32 jpschools.org PRECODED DOCUMENTS Consumable test booklets(ELA and math) and answer documents (Science): All testers receive one consumable test booklet (ELA and math) or answer document (Science) per content area. Precoding is based on October 2015 enrollment. The label box is preprinted with the following information: first and last name, gender, DOB, bar code, precode number, district and school names and codes, and state ID number. (Limited student information is used if no data sharing agreement is on file.) As in prior years: Do not correct any errors in the preprinted information. Notify your SIS coordinator. Principals should bubble accountability codes as needed. Test coordinators or administrators should code accessibility features and/or accommodations used during administration. 32

34 jpschools.org HAND-CODING DOCUMENTS Consumable test booklets(ELA and math) and answer documents (Science): Test coordinators must hand-code documents for students not receiving precoded documents. Hand-coded documents require program specific bar-code labels. The testing program and administration are identified at the bottom of the bar-code label. School personnel must not affix bar-code labels to answer documents for approved home study program. 34
