2 Learn about the parable of the Good Samaritan. Learn how Christian may use this parable to be a role model. ALL - Pupils will know the main parts of parable of the Good Samaritan. (Level 3) MOST – Pupils will apply their knowledge of the story to create a modern day version of it. (Level 4) SOME – Pupils will analyse a person and evaluate whether they are a role model. (Level 5/6)

3 Let’s watch the parable of the Good Samaritan…

4 A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. The robbers let him pass because they felt nice that day. A priest saw the beaten man and walked past. A temple helper saw the beaten man and helped. The Samaritan saw the man, treated his wounds and took him to an inn to recover. True False True False True

6 In groups of 2/3 you will create a modern day version of the Good Samaritan. You will have 10 minutes to create it. Then 5 minutes to present your story to your peers. One person must think about how you are going to make your modern day version gripping. One must be the scribe e.g. writing out the story. One must present your story to another group.

Excellent when - Your modern version includes creative characters that shows the meaning of the story. Outstanding when - Your modern version shows how people you would expect to help do not. TIP: Who are you going to include as your characters? E.g. The Jew could be an Everton fan and the Samaritan could be a Liverpool fan.

8 Presenters - swap groups and tell them your modern day version! Use the criteria to assess the story, give a verbal RAG mark and explain your reasons. 11 Extension:- Could you argue against your decision, which facts about Paul could change your mind. Explain your point of view. Read the facts about Paul and in pairs and come to a decision. The FA cup game between Fleetwood and Blackpool is just about to start and he is running late.

17 Tim Brown is 61 years old. Tim is a fanatical Fleetwood town fan and has had a season ticket since he was 11 years old. Tim needs to get home straight after the game because his wife wants to go out. It is the night that Fleetwood play Blackpool in the FA cup he has been looking forward to this game for months. Tim regularly attends his local church.Tim used to work for his local branch of the Samaritans. Tim is a qualified doctor and used to be a GP.Tim had his cat put to sleep when it was ill. Tim’s daughter is moving abroad tomorrow and he’s up early to take her to the airport. Tim has two children and a very bossy wife. When Tim was younger he was part of a football gang.Tim regularly reads passages from the bible. When Tim was 20 he was involved in a fight between rival gangs, he seriously injured a rival. While Tim was in prison he discovered Christianity. Tim still wants to make up for what he did in the past.Tim carries an organ donation card
