A true story… Young man who went to the gym 3 times a week Became ill, went to GP, referred to local hospital Diagnosed with cardiomyopathy virus – referred to Wythenshawe Hospital “I could see him dying in front of my eyes” Eventually had a successful heart transplant Now recovering close to home –plans to run the marathon!

6. What is happening to specialised commissioning? NHS Commissioning Board rather than PCTs / CCGs. Moving from 10 SCGs and NSCT to single function National consistency – single policies, standards, contracts Equity & Excellence Apologies for all the acronyms!

7. When? Now – the change is underway - National Commissioning Development Transition Team, led by Dame Barbara Hakin Shared Operating Model for PCTs (July 2011) - 10 SCGs to be clustered alongside new 4 SHA Clusters Measured transition and national workstreams 17+ service areas will be commissioned nationally by April 2012; more by April 2013.
