1 Attendance and Safeguarding: Training, resources and support for schools Ben Whitney Independent Education Welfare Consultant and Trainer www.ben-whitney.org.uk

2 Not just ticking a box! What training do you and your colleagues need? And why do you need it? Attendance and Child Protection are two essential elements in promoting the welfare of children. Sadly they have also become a way of making judgements about schools, so there’s always a danger of just doing what we need to do to get through our next Ofsted or look better in the league tables. That is not the sort of training I offer. It’s not about making your attendance data look better or going through the motions of safeguarding training because we’ve got to. It’s about making sure your school is a genuinely caring community that believes in the best for every child and understands their individual needs. If that’s not what you’re looking for – look elsewhere! www.ben-whitney.org.uk
