General expectations and behaviour Independence and learning culture Year 6 should be setting the standards for the rest of the school Building Learning Power – Children developing good learning behaviours and skills. Handwriting to be joined – additional homework might be given on this Work should be presented immaculately at all times Books - Learning Journey, Cross-curricular writing, Maths, R.E. Learning Journals will be covered by the children to reflect what they will be learning about Extended writing every other week

P.E. It is the expectation that all children participate in P.E. P.E. kits need to be black shorts, school t-shirt, suitable footwear and outdoor clothing for colder weather P.E. kits should be in school from Monday to Friday

Curriculum Creative curriculum Engage, develop, express, innovate. Topics for the next year will be 6 out of these 9: Autumn: A Child’s War, Fallen Fields, Blood Heart Spring: Frozen Kingdom, Darwin’s Delights, Gallery Rebels Summer: ID, Hola Mexico!, Tomorrow’s World

Assessment and the Curriculum The new curriculum is designed as a mastery curriculum Progress is still expected, but it is aimed at ensuring more children achieve the expected levels Less objectives but in more depth Enrichment is the key to those that have got it.
7
Targets and Intervention Targets – we will be continuing with targets from last year – initially teacher led but hopefully by half term, children will have a greater awareness At the moment, children have writing and maths targets. Assessment updates are currently under review Intervention groups Children will be going to intervention groups to ensure progress. This is not ability restricted and is flexible. It could be short or long sessions.

16 th Day Book An important link between parents and school Provide the children will a great opportunity to show what they can do Allow parents to celebrate their work Should always have a comment from the parents. I have found that less and less parents comment by Year 6, which sends out the worng message to the children.
9
Homework Homework will be thinking homework: Would you rather be a child in 1940 or 2014? If you were to colonise a planet, which one would you choose? Done over 2 weeks Children can present in their own way Will be no more than 1 sheet of A3 Children will have regular spelling challenges/ investigations to follow After Autumn half term, children will have additional skills work to be done linked to SATs
11
SATs The KS2 SATs will take place between Monday 9th May and Thursday 13th May 2016. The children will complete the following tests during this week: Reading test Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar test Three non-calculator Maths tests Children will have practice papers for homework after Christmas Reading – children must read regularly at home – without this, they will struggle to read all the content. SPAG test is spelling, punctuation and grammar. There are a number of ways in which you can help your child, in order to both achieve their best and feel confident as we get closer to SATs: Please continue reading with your child everyday; reading and understanding the questions is key for these tests and for life! Quick mental maths at home, especially of the times tables, is very important. All of the children sitting the papers should know each times table up to 12 by Year 6
