1 Solihull Juniors Club statement Coaching Strategy Codes of Conduct

2 Club Statement The club provides football for all in a safe, positive and friendly environment where players learn not only the technical aspects of the game but also the value of teamwork, fairness, healthy lifestyle, exercise, competition and respect.

3 Coaching Strategy  Control possession in all areas of the pitch  Develop players to be creative both individually and when combining with other players  Create a game style that encourages attacking play

4 Game Style  Start game from the Defensive Third where ever possible.  Develop play using all thirds  Combine and be clever in final third to penetrate lines of defenders  Take opportunity to press early to win the ball back quickly

12 Coaching Language (1)  Lending the ball –  Kids do not want to give the most important toy away. They are more comfortable letting someone use something they own if they know they will be given it back !  Pass and Move –  possession football cannot be performed unless this fundamental aspect of play is ingrained within each player. The better this concept is performed the more effective a possession game style will be developed.  Play in the future –  a phrase to encourage players to have an awareness of where the next pass is going to go or indeed seeing a passage of play and anticipating a later move.

13 Coaching Language (2)  Start Again –  informing a player ahead of you in possession that there is player in a deeper supporting position in space able to receive the ball  Play Round –  a way of transferring the ball from one side of the pitch from wide players to central players to the opposite wide players  Switch –  moving the ball from one side of the pitch to the other in 1 pass.  Shape –  Starting positions when the opposition are in possession of the ball deep in their own third which encourages the team to begin in a solid compact shape.

14 Coaching Language (3)  Narrow Off –  a command asking wide players or full backs to move into the pitch to stay as a compact unit, a good covering position especially when the ball is on the opposite side of the pitch  Channels –  the space between lines of players, thus allowing a player to pass quickly along the floor and thereby opening up better passing options

15 Coaching Language (4)  First Contact –  a trigger for all set pieces and longer aerial passes. F C will give you an advantage from offensive set pieces and the chance to clear your lines from defensive set pieces.  Bounce –  encouraging the receiving player to play the ball quickly the way that he is facing  Turn Out –  a call to a player who is running into a tight area, requiring them to turn back to play the ball backwards or across the pitch

17 Your Role When in possession  Defender:  l support team mates from behind the ball  l pass out from defensive situations

18 Your Role When in possession  Midfielder:  l link between the defence and the striker  l establish width to pull the opposition defence apart

19 Your Role When in possession  Striker:  l shield the ball in attack to maintain possession  l set up and take goal scoring chances

20 Your Role Opponents in possession  Striker:  l hassle back-players  l prevent long passes out of defence

21 Your Role Opponents in possession  Midfielder:  l cover opposition attackers  l pressure the player on the ball

22 Your Role Opponents in possession  Defender:  l cover the striker  l fill in the space between the opposition striker and midfield

23 Your Role Opponents in possession  Goalkeeper  I stay alert to recover the ball if played beyond my defenders  I stop the ball from going into the goal

24 Coaches Code Of Conduct  Coaches must respect the rights, dignity and worth of each and every person and treat each equally within the context of the sport.  Coaches must place the well-being and safety of each player above all other considerations, including the development of performance.  Coaches must adhere to all guidelines laid down by governing bodies.  Coaches must develop an appropriate working relationship with each player based on mutual trust and respect.  Coaches must not exert undue influence to obtain personal benefit or reward.  Coaches must encourage and guide players to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.  Coaches must ensure that the activities they direct or advocate are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of players.  Coaches should, at the outset, clarify with the players (and, where appropriate, parents) exactly what is expected of them and also what they, as players, are entitled to expect from their coach.  Coaches must co-operate fully with other specialists (e.g. other coaches, officials, sports scientists, doctors, physiotherapists) in the best interests of the player.  Coaches must always promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play) and never condone violations of the Laws of the Game, behaviour contrary to the spirit of the Laws of the Game or relevant rules and regulations or the use of prohibited substances or techniques.  Coaches must consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance.  Not to use or tolerate inappropriate language.  Coaches will promote Solihull Juniors FC ethos and coach in accordance with SJFC Game Style and Development Plan.  Maintain continuous professional development by attending organised events.  As a registered Respect League, all Solihull Juniors team parents and players agree to adhere to the Respect Code of Conduct.

25 Players Code Of Conduct  Solihull Juniors FC supports The FA’s Respect programme to ensure football can be enjoyed in a safe, positive environment at all times during your football development.  “As Players you have a responsibility to represent yourselves, club, coaches and parents in a respectful and positive manner"  Always play for FUN and ENJOYMENT. (Play with a smile on your face!)  Meet and greet your coach and teammates at the beginning of each training session and games, with a handshake.  Make every attempt to play to the best of your ability.  Make every effort to develop their own sporting abilities, in terms of skill, technique, tactics and stamina.  Play fairly, do not cheat, complain or waste time.  Applaud effort and the attempting of good play by your team mates. DON’T criticise team mates!  Respect your team mates.  Respect the facilities, staff, officials, opposition at our ground and our opponents’ grounds.  Play by the rules, as directed by the referee/coach.  Shake hands with opposition, referee as well as team mates at the end of each game.  Listen and respond to what your coach/team manager tells me.  Talk to someone you trust if you are unhappy have any concerns.  Players should be in bed at a reasonable hour on the night before a game.  Winning is important but taking part and trying your best is much more significant.  Do not criticise the opponents, their parents, coaches or the referee.  Never engage in, or tolerate, offensive, insulting, or abusive language or behaviour.  As a registered Respect League, all Solihull Juniors team parents and players agree to adhere to the Respect Code of Conduct.

27 Parents Code Of Conduct  Solihull Juniors FC supports The FA’s Respect programme to ensure football can be enjoyed in a safe, positive environment at all times during your child’s football development.  “As Parents and as Coaches, we have a responsibility to be a role model to your child at all times”  Remember that first and foremost, children play for FUN.  Parents should not criticise their child on any part of the player’s game, leave to the coach, as it may cause confusion and erode the player’s confidence.  Parents must not coach from the pitch side during matches and training.  Be your child’s best fan and support him unconditionally. Do not withdraw your support when he performs below his standards.  Applaud effort and attempting good play as well as success.  When transporting your child home, please be supporting and always focus on the positive aspects of his game.  Develop a responsibility in your child to pack his own kit, clean boots and bring along his drink.  Respect the facilities, staff, officials, opposition at our ground and our opponents’ grounds.  Remain outside the field of play and within the Designated Spectators’ Area (where provided) at training and matches.  Do not criticise your child’s coach to your coach or other parents, if you are not happy with the coach you should raise the issue with the coach.  Encourage your child to speak to the coach. If your child is having difficulties in training or games, or cannot attend training etc. encourage him to speak directly to the coaches.  Monitor your child’s stress levels at home. Keep an eye on the player to make sure that they are handling stress effectively from the various activities of life.  Players should be in bed at a reasonable hour on the night before a game.
