About Hospices Hospices seek to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of adults and children with a life-limiting or terminal illness, helping them live as fully as they can for the precious time they have left Hospices offer wide-ranging, personalised care which is provided by a range of different professional staff and volunteers. As well as taking care of people's physical needs, they also look after their emotional, spiritual and social needs. Hospices also support carers, family members and close friends, both during a person's illness and during bereavement.

About Trinity Hospice Founded in 1891 Based on Clapham Common Covers 750,000 people across Central and Southwest London Supports patients with a range of illnesses, including cancer, heart and lung disease, motor neurone disease and dementia. We receive less than a third of our funding from the NHS. All our services are free of charge.

Hospices and BME communities Evidence that people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups are less likely to access end of life care services Barriers include: –Lower awareness of hospices among BME communities –Assumptions made by referrers e.g. families from BME communities want to deliver care –Less likely to talk about and plan for death due to cultural and religious influences e.g. God may be seen as the one to decide life and death We are here today to raise awareness of our services and to understand how we can better meet the needs of all the people we serve
